Ryan specializes in defending a wide range of personal injury claims and has significant representation in construction and job-site injuries, automobile accidents, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, premise liability, and products liability and has extended his practice to work closely with Smith Freed Eberhard’s Construction and Development Group.
Prior to joining Smith Freed Eberhard, Ryan gained his insurance defense experience working at law firms in Eugene and Portland, Oregon. While attending law school, Ryan served as an associate editor of the Oregon Law Review, preparing articles for publication and conducting associated research.
Ryan successfully briefed and argued the Court of Appeals case, Bell v. Morales, 207 Or App 326 (2006), which established that ORCP 54E offers of judgment can limit attorney fees under ORS 20.080. He prepared and argued multiple successful motions for summary judgment related to construction and jobsite injury claims. Ryan also has litigation and trial experience in defending bodily injury and wrongful death claims involving construction site injuries and auto accidents.
