Phil Santos is an associate attorney licensed in Oregon. His practice areas cover Commercial Liability Defense and Automotive Defense.
Phil is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel, Oregon Minority Lawyers Association, Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Multnomah Bar Association, and the Oregon State Bar Association.
Phil earned his J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law, where he was honored as a Multnomah Bar Association Fellow, a Lew and Ann Williams Business Law Fellow, and a Frohnmayer Leadership Program Fellow. He completed his undergraduate studies at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt.
Prior to joining Smith Freed Eberhard, Phil practiced family law, where he cultivated a client-centered approach that he now applies to his work in insurance defense. His legal perspective is further informed by his time clerking for the Honorable Judge Erin A. Fennerty at the Lane County Circuit Court. Phil also externed for the Honorable Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai at the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon.
Originally from the East Coast, Phil has embraced the Pacific Northwest as his home. A true Oregonian at heart, he’s often outdoors rain or shine—usually climbing, hiking, or simply enjoying the scenery. He is a fan of Formula 1 and occasionally pretends to follow other sports. Whether he is out climbing or in the courtroom, Phil enjoys the challenge of navigating calculated risks to achieve successful outcomes.
