Professional Experience
Steve primarily works in the area of insurance coverage, advising insurance carriers on coverage issues involving the interpretation and application of various policies. He has broad experience with first party, and general liability policies, as well as errors and omissions policies. He also defends carriers in coverage disputes. Steve devotes a considerable amount of his practice to motions and appellate briefs, as well as assisting other attorneys with complex or specialized matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Steve practiced municipal law for a Eugene, Oregon firm that specialized in representing and advising Oregon cities, including the City of Eugene.  While attending law school, he served as an Associate Editor of the Willamette Law Review.

Significant Representations

  • Participated in defending the City of Eugene’s laws and programs against legal and constitutional challenges; examples include the Toxics-Right-To-Know Law and the Urban Renewal Plan
  • Key member of nursing home/elder abuse litigation team, including effective participation in defense of health care provider in five wrongful death cases based on allegations of excessive administration of narcotic pain relievers
  • Extensive, successful experience in briefing complex issues in dispositive motions
