Prior to joining Smith Freed & Eberhard, Katie was a partner at an insurance defense firm in Vancouver, Washington where she gained significant experience defending casualty, construction defect, insurance coverage, bad faith and appellate cases for multiple insurance carriers. She evaluated all aspects of first and third party insurance cases, represented several cases at trial and successfully argued Motions before both Oregon and Washington courts.

Katie enjoys speaking to trade organizations and insurance companies regarding Oregon and Washington law. She has presented to the Clark County Bar Association regarding the admissibility of expert testimony under Washington law.

• Represented an operator of a boat whereby the passenger suffered a traumatic leg amputation. The case settled successfully out of court.
• Represented an operator of a boat whereby the individual being towed behind the boat suffered a brain injury. The case settled below policy limits.
• Received a defense verdict on an auto liability case in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
• Received a favorable verdict at trial in Klamath Falls Circuit Court on an auto liability case whereby the plaintiff was seeking several thousand dollars but the jury only awarded a nominal amount.
